A number of programmes and organisations across the region have been shortlisted for national Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards - one of the longest running and most prestigious healthcare awards in the country.

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System (SYB ICS) has been shortlisted in the category for Integrated Care System of the Year based on the work of the integrated stroke delivery network and changes to the way specialist care is provided for stroke patients across the region.

From April 2022 under current government proposals, the ICS will be the organisation responsible for providing all health care services across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and will build on partnership working already in place in the area.

Professor Des Breen, medical director for the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System, said: "It is fantastic news that we have been recognised nationally for our work to improve health and care services for local people. We have been working together across services and organisations to provide high quality care, treatment and support for everyone in our region and the changes to our stroke services are a fantastic example of this.

"Many of our services and programmes have been shortlisted in this year's HSJ Awards which really is testament to the hard work and dedication of health and care teams across the region."
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Stroke Delivery Network was set up in response to a review and public consultation into emergency stroke care, with new ways of working meaning that anyone who has a stroke in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield has fast access to specialist tests and treatment with ongoing support to recover close to where they live. The example is just one of many new and improved ways of working, benefitting patients across the area.
