Working collaboratively across secondary care partners

Working together across hospitals

In South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB), our hospitals have been working together for a number of years to improve clinical standards and care outcomes for patients, and also make their organisations great places to work.

There are many improvement projects happening across SYB's hospitals which you can read about from the links below. All the projects aim to improve the way in which patients receive their care and their healthcare outcomes.

These are just a few examples of what is happening:

  • Regional Hyper-Acute Stroke Service - setting up a specialist stroke care pathway for everyone, regardless of where they live in SYB
  • Working with mums and pregnant women to improve neonatal and maternity care
  • Getting better value for money through collaborative procurement (buying) initiatives across the hospitals
  • Working across hospital hosted networks to improve clinical standards and reduce unintended variation across our five places

Our work programmes

What are Hospital Hosted Networks?

From now until 2022, we will take forward the recently formed Hosted Networks to ensure everyone has the same high quality standards and equal access.

Working across the Hosted Networks will enable the ICS to standardise clinical standards and reduce unintended variation across our five places in Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

We have three key principles:

  1. Training and retaining the best workforce
  2. Improving the standardisation of care and reducing unwarranted (unintended) variation in patient care - regardless of where patients live to improve access and equity to reduce health inequalities
  3. Using innovative to enhance digital systems and digital technology to support better patient experience and outcomes

We will continue to ensure there is a shared approach to working across our Networks and put a stronger governance framework in place. This will ensure there is adequate support around mutual aid (sharing resources) collaboration to develop workforce planning (especially within clinical and patient-facing roles), clinical standardisation, and encourage innovation across the Trusts, while retaining equal status of all partners.
